Sati's Rebirth
Parvati is the reincarnation of Sati, who immolated herself due to her father Daksha's insult to Shiva. Born as the daughter of Himavan, the king of mountains, Parvati performed intense penance to win Shiva's heart once again.
The Great Penance
To reunite with Shiva, Parvati undertook severe austerities in the Himalayas, meditating in harsh conditions for years. Impressed by her devotion, Shiva tested her in disguise, and upon recognizing her pure love, agreed to marry her.
Slaying Mahishasura
When the buffalo demon Mahishasura could only be killed by a woman, Parvati manifested as Durga. After a fierce nine-day battle, she vanquished the demon, bringing peace to the three worlds.
