Becoming Lord of Wealth
Kubera performed intense penance to Lord Brahma for thousands of years. Pleased by his devotion, Brahma appointed him as the treasurer of the gods and the lord of all wealth, guarding the divine treasures in his city of Alaka.
Humbled by Krishna
Once, the proud Kubera invited Krishna to a feast to display his wealth. Krishna brought along His friend Sudama, whose simple devotion and handful of beaten rice pleased Krishna more than all of Kubera's riches, teaching humility to the god of wealth.
Guardian of Treasures
Kubera rules over the Yakshas and guards the treasures of the earth, including precious gems and minerals. He rides a celestial vehicle called Pushpaka Vimana and ensures that wealth flows to those who are deserving and righteous.
